Abstract

Besides their useful therapeutic actions, calcium channel blockers have also toxic effects causing adverse clinical outcomes. A 19-year-old woman was admitted to our emergency department (ED) with complains of nausea and vomiting after 12 hours of ingesting high dose amlodipine. After administering gastric lavage, activated charcoal, calcium gluconate and glucose-insulin solutions in ED, she was admitted to the intensive care unit. Hypotension, liver and renal failure and then sepsis occurred during the intensive care follow-up. She died in the 20th day of the follow-up. In this case report, we aimed to evaluate the initial approach, complications, therapeutic options and clinical outcomes of serious amlodipine poisoning.
